Pentagon Calls Off Planned Press Briefing
“Tomorrow's press briefing has been cancelled,” the notice said.
The briefing, which was to be led by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Dan Caine, was planned just 12 hours before a deadline set by US President Donald Trump, requiring Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face strikes on its bridges and power plants.
No explanation was provided for the cancellation.
Trump on Monday stated that US forces could "take out" the entire nation of Iran in a single night, adding that “that night might be tomorrow night.”
He reiterated his warning, emphasizing that by Tuesday night at 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT Wednesday), every bridge and power plant in Iran would be "decimated" if no agreement was reached.
Regional tensions have intensified since a joint US-Israeli offensive against Iran began on February 28, reportedly killing over 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In response, Iran has launched drone and missile attacks on Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US forces, resulting in casualties, infrastructure damage, and disruptions to global markets and aviation.
